Being in academia recently has not been easy 4 staff or students. But watching my amazing postgraduate & undergraduate students get their degrees yesterday was a privilege. Sharing their celebrations after having shared the difficult steps along the way makes it all worth while!

It will be so nice for our students to have the new Student Union building on campus. With our first years arriving this weekend I'm sure it will be a great space for them to use as they get used to University!

Excited to be welcoming our first year #criminology students to Canterbury Christ Church University. University can seem a big place but our team are here to help you navigate your new space!

The title is quite hard to find but what a fantastic read it is. Morn offers an insider's look at the growth of CJ as an academic enterprise.

So proud to see two of our graduates join us as lecturers in criminology! Makes me feel old but so pleased and am certain they'll be fabulous!

Yesterday I taught our new masters students about different dimensions of justice and today it's our first year undergraduates on the history of punishment. All in all a good week 😊

76 months since 72 loved ones were taken from us, and it doesn’t get any easier over time. Our thoughts are with all those who have lost family across the world in recent weeks, both through disasters or conflict. #ForeverInOurHearts 💚

Absolutely this. I worked with homeless people for more than ten years and met some of the kindest and smart people I've known. None of them chose to be homeless!

Punishing people for sleeping rough is inhumane and doesn't help any of us. According to this BBC News (UK) report a source close to the Home Secretary Suella Braverman is insisting that plans to criminalise the use of tents by people sleeping rough have not been dropped. [1/10]

Plaudits continue on social media for the prison drama #Time, the short series written by Jimmy McGovern. Whether or not you know much about #prisons, this portrayal was done in such as way as help everyone learn more about womens prisons. Did you watch it? What did you think?

Attended Grenfell testimony week opening. The most beautiful, powerful testimonies from bereaved and survivors. Speaking truth to power. A poignant reminder of the delay, denial and deflection faced in their ongoing search for accountability and systemic change.

#OTD 1902 Britain opened its first 'Borstal' detention centre for boys, at the village of #Borstal in Kent. The institution was designed to keep boys, especially first offenders, away from adult criminals in prisons; to teach them a trade and to reward good behaviour.
