The terrorists Hamas must return the hostages immediately and stop their indiscriminate rocket fire.  We need to stop further Israeli and Palestinian suffering and the loss of civilian lives - including children - now.  Today I’ve called for a ceasefire.

Channel 4 says Israeli tv reporting start of land invasion of Gaza. Critical time for Labour to be leading the call for a ceasefire. As the casualties tragically mount I don’t think we will be forgiven by many of our supporters for not taking a stand and we won’t deserve to be.

I repeat my call for a humanitarian ceasefire in the Middle East, the unconditional release of all hostages, and the delivery of life-saving supplies at the scale needed. Everyone must assume their responsibilities. This is a moment of truth. History will judge us all.
