“A paid carer will do 8 hours for £91.52, the unpaid carer will do the other 160 hours and receive an allowance of just £81.90”. racheladamsmith.com/post/got-us-ov…

Angela Rayner Unpaid carers work never ending shifts, day after day, night after night, week after week No setting an alarm clock, no guaranteed time to shower, toilet, eat, sleep. 47% care 90 + hrs a week Where’s their proper pay for work that goes beyond the hours of everyone else

Once upon a time unpaid carers were not unpaid carers. They used to love getting into bed early, switching off from their day & getting a good nights sleep, now, many don’t have that to look forward to, as there is no beginning & no end to their shift. #unpaidcarer

I may not speak but I understand I can hear I can communicate I have feelings, thoughts & wishes I may not speak but I should be part of the conversation Non speaking doesn’t mean I have nothing to say, it means you need to listen to me with more than just your ears

Hello Morrisons what was the thought process when you did this in relation to those with disabilities? As you’ve just made access, life, even more inaccessible, difficult for them. Flick Williams JELLY HEAD Doug Paulley Bairbre Mckendrick #Wetherby

“I’ll stand by you”. The absolute irony. As when you have a disabled child pretty well the whole world drops you like a stone. Only the most determined of friends continue. As for the authorities it’s more like “we’ll stand against you”. #ChildrenInNeed

Yes! This! 👇 Thank you Chris McCausland 📖 "Keep Laughing" OUT NOW! Society is all the poorer when so many are denied opportunity and support. This message is so important. Please please keep speaking it.

Layla Moran 🔶🕊️⁩ ⁦Health and Social Care Committee⁩ Please consider this account of the work of an unpaid carer and the impact of the role on our health and wellbeing. Input from a range of unpaid carers (not just carers charities) is vital to your understanding racheladamsmith.com/post/think-of-…

If you would like to help provide a camp bed for an unpaid carer to sleep on, instead of on the hospital floor or a windowsill, you can. gofundme.com/f/beds4unpaidc… Thank you #unpaidcarers Wes Streeting

Just short of enough for six fold down beds for unpaid carers to be able to sleep/rest when in hospital caring for their relative Please share and help if you can. gofund.me/7416ed44

Rae (@raea_smith) 's Twitter Profile Photo

Unpaid carers haven’t just come on shift when they arrive at the hospital, it’s likely they’ve had no sleep or limited sleep for days, weeks or years. They will be exhausted, physically & mentally. There should always be a fold down bed for them gofund.me/aa3ce098

“If you are not disabled and you regularly go to a yoga class, a book group or just the pub, when was the last time you did so with even a single disabled adult present?” Thanks to John Harris for being one of the rare columnists to ask these Qs. theguardian.com/commentisfree/…

Care and support should never depend on unpaid carers endlessly re-explaining the most painful parts of their lives to new professionals. That isn’t continuity — it’s re-traumatisation and the fear of being misunderstood. #brokensystem #socialcare
