A well-respected MMA coach who always posts training tips and is based out of Australia says he arrived in the U.S. for an already-scheduled seminar, but was detained at the border, thrown in a federal prison and ultimately deported. The details of his story are harrowing:

1/18 For anyone who's followed Elon Musk and $TSLA since ~2017-18, they've seen Elon Musk get away with QUITE A BIT, which may have landed a normal person in (very) hot water. What are some of those things? Well, in no particular order, we note:

Never forget: this is not Trump. This is the Republican Party. They called for this in Project 2025. The right is built on climate denial, and they will happily destroy American science before they will accept the end of the fossil-energy economy. science.org/content/articl…

I regret to inform you that testing of 51 brands of toothpaste found that 90% contained lead, 65% contained arsenic, about half contained mercury, and a third had cadmium. But people are worried about fluoride in the water.

Since the dawn of the industrial revolution, a couple of hundred years ago, greenhouse gas forcing - mainly from burning fossil fuels - has more than doubled. Meaning that the ability of the atmosphere to trap heat has significantly increased. Thanks Leon Simons (looking up) for the graphic!

2025 had the second warmest first quarter (Jan-Mar) on record, just a hair behind last year (2024). This is remarkable since 2024 was boosted by a strong El Nino event, while 2025 started off in weak La Nina conditions.

During our Climate Chat, someone asked when we reach +3.0°C with current warming rates. Here I extrapolated the warming rate from 'Global Warming has Accelerated Significantly' by Grant Foster and Stefan @Rahmstorf (2025 preprint) to up to +4°C (extending their table 1):

7/ This is NPR scoop. Read below. NPR tracked down the NASA scientist who designed & operate the OCO satellites, now retired. This is just gob-smacking know-nothingness. Like requiring farmers, scientists, business people to wear a veil. npr.org/2025/08/04/nx-…
