Since the dawn of the industrial revolution, a couple of hundred years ago, greenhouse gas forcing - mainly from burning fossil fuels - has more than doubled. Meaning that the ability of the atmosphere to trap heat has significantly increased. Thanks Leon Simons (looking up) for the graphic!
