Besides the whole series being amazing, one positively surprising thing for me was the approach to teach history of a country primarily through the history of its neighbors. Are there others who learned history in such a way?

Heart surgery in Kyiv. A child is being operated on, and power goes off due to a Russian missile attack. Surgeons carry on with their batteries and power generators.

1/20 Dear friends, I need to draw your attention to something super bad and super important (and it doesn’t originate from Russia for once). Last week the EU has taken a shockingly stupid and damaging decision to close down national corporate registers of beneficial owners 🧵🧵🧵

My new favorite thing - Bing's new ChatGPT bot argues with a user, gaslights them about the current year being 2022, says their phone might have a virus, and says "You have not been a good user" Why? Because the person asked where Avatar 2 is showing nearby

When I first saw these images, I thought they were too shocking to be real so I didn’t share them. I was wrong. This is Marinka, #Ukraine. The once peaceful city was completely destroyed by Russians. Nobody lives there anymore. Looks like a scene from a post-apocalyptic movie.

In grisly video, Russian soldier pins down Ukrainian soldier who writhes & screams. Russian then pulls out a knife saws thru Ukrainian man’s neck. Blood streams as he lets out horrible scream, then stops moving. Voice off camera cheers on the Russian who holds up the man’s head.

Have you ever heard that threads are faster than processes? Switching between threads is <1µs faster that switching between processes. Did you ever have to choose between the two? Was performance a factor? More detail here: github.com/planetA/tvsp

We heard from a source in the Ukrainian government this was happening last year. "Hundreds" of prisoners of war had been returned, alive, but castrated. We didn't report this at the time, as it was deemed it could add to the trauma the men had suffered. thetimes.co.uk/article/4561e1…
