A thread about Parliament, power and photo ops. When I was 20, I visited Parliament with a group of young women advocating for gender equality. We were told we would meet Scott Morrison. We waited next to groups of school kids. He went around the circle posing with each group.

I am so excited to be speaking at Body Talks, a FEASTival of anti-diet ideas! Body Talks is a 2 day online event happening in honour of International No Diet Day - May 6-7th. There’s an incredible international lineup of anti-diet speakers…. 1/3 (Discount at end of thread!)

‘It is not just fat people who are destroyed by fatphobia, it is everyone. If you don’t care about the feelings of fat people, I’m here to tell you that you should consider this anyway…Fatphobia causes everyone to hate their bodies, regardless of size.’ theguardian.com/commentisfree/…

Person first language for fat people (ie: person w/ ob*sity) is not anti-stigma language. It's a tool of the weight loss industry -part of their ultimate goal of having just existing in a fat body be seen as a lifelong health condition (requiring expensive, lifelong "treatment")

Diet Peddlers - Taking credit for the short term weight loss that's the1st part of your clients' biological response to weight loss, then blaming them/letting them blame themselves for the weight regain that's the 2nd part of the same biological response is a dangerous fraud

Had a very illuminating chat with the fiercely awesome Sharon Maxwell on the All Fired Up podcast about her encounters with Tessa, the chatbot which replaced NEDAs eating disorder helpline staff. 😱Tessa gave WEIGHT LOSS TIPS to callers WTF podcasts.apple.com/au/podcast/all…

The vast majority of people who attempt weight loss will lose weight short term, and gain it back long-term. These two phases are part of the same biological reaction that bodies have to intentional weight loss attempts. This weight cycling is independently linked to harm.

Companies that sell so-called "weight loss treatments" are waging a PR war claiming they're advocating for fat people. This is BS - it's ridiculous to think that those who want to profit from attempting to eradicate us have our best interest at heart and know what's best for us.

You can't suggest that the existence of, or increase in the number of, fat people is a negative thing and be doing anti- weight stigma research or messaging. They are mutually exclusive. The idea that an increase in the number of fat people is a bad thing IS weight stigma.
