It is always a pleasure to speak to clever people. Today I had the opportunity to discuss estimands and the interface between statistics and research ethics with Brennan Kahan. Lots of food for thought!

I’ve just re-read the paper by Sharon Straus I cited here. It is a pearl. I mean look…. Anyone still banging the “EBM = RCT”/“doesn’t consider other evidence/experience” is literally 20+ years behind.

It was great fun to contribute with a bit of clinical trial ethics at the #DIA Europe 2023. Happy that the EU Medicines Agency ACT-EU team thinks that we at Danish National Center for Ethics are doing enough interesting things to be worth inviting!

Great evening in the Medical Society of Copenhagen with Professor Lars Køber giving a tour de force of heart failure trials through 25 years. His insisting on calling win ratios ‘tailwind ratios’ was particularly amusing.

Great to see this big RCT published by professor and great discussion partner on everything ethics, Gorm Greisen. To randomize 1600 extremely preterm infants is really something!

Great day at the spring meeting of the Danish Lymphoma Society discussing consent in cluster/platform trials. But what really caught their attention was my hematology podcast recommendation slide w/ Plenary Session Podcast 🎙️ WolverHeme chadi nabhan MD, MBA, FACP. New (expert) listeners soon, I guess.

“How could an EC have approved this trial” - a harsh statement for a national EC system. What are we missing? Can we do better? Friday, Vinay Prasad MD MPH shared his views to a large audience of EC members. Thanks for a fantastic lecture and for coming all the way to Denmark.

A lot of gems 💎here ! As a member of Geneva Ethics Committee, I enjoyed it a lot ! "Informed consent should not be one doctor, it should be two doctors: pro and con" and other sometimes provocative, but always deep and important toughts... + lot of humour ! great job Vinay!

Great to have Simon Tilma Vistisen visiting the National Research Ethics Committee (Danish National Center for Ethics) today to share his story about the Hypotension Prediction Index! Seems that ML algorithms are are no good in the clinic, if the training data is heavily selected.
