If I were to systematically review these sorts of studies, I wonder what common biases I should appraise for but also any unique/new ones specific to studies of AI in medicine/healthcare

Another reminder that the systematic review part of a systematic review is THE MOST IMPORTANT PART, NOT THE META-ANALYSIS!

The irony here is that “top people” in the “My diet book is the diet book of all diet books” now be like “See, even ‘mainstream’ science backs intermittent fasting”

Selective appraisal facilitates bad, not good, science

Not surprising it happens - it’s hard upsetting friends

AlL of the problems with paper mills, research integrity etc fundamentally boils down to….”details”:

As gatekeepers of evidence, journals SHOULD be charged with doing the work on “details”. If that isn’t their function, what is?

Great 🧵
We should all know about Kahneman (& Tversky)

Most of my Introduction to EBM teaching sessions start with the lily pad slide

It's perhaps no coincidence that Paddy and I share similar views on the science of physical activity for health:

It also misses a learning point that the majority of people who follow him can’t tell “reference based medicine” from actual evidence appraisal and communication.

It’s a feature and a bug that ALL the wellness industry benefit from.

If this isn’t your ratio of “post:do not post” on this site then you are doing all of it wrong.

'It's going to protect YOU...'
'It will reduce YOUR risk of a heart attack, cancer, diabetes etc'.

We see this all the time when it comes to medical treatments and health interventions.

I'm going to show why 99.9% of the time this type of phrasing/framing ('YOU/R') is wrong🧵

1 in 5 in UK live in poverty
1 in 4 = obese

Telling the people who need it least to switch to £4.50 sourdough or “cook from scratch” won’t shift the needle (and never has).

A societal shift is needed where those with have to be willing to go without
