The federal government does and should have the power to deploy troops domestically—even without local consent—*when the circumstances warrant it.* Me on why the real issue in Portland, Chicago, and elsewhere is the missing / contrived factual predicate: nytimes.com/2025/10/07/opi…

A federal judge ruled that senior DOJ officials' comments created a "realistic likelihood" of vindictiveness in its criminal case against Kilmar Abrego Garcia. Abregio Garcia is now entitled to a hearing to argue for tossing his case on these grounds. bit.ly/48jnA4D

It doesn’t matter whether you’re a Republican or a Democrat — you should be worried when you hear the president say a judge should “work for him”. No judge should ever serve any politician. That’s not how the balance of powers works.

As MSNBC first reported, interim U.S. Attorney Lindsey Halligan has brought in prosecutors from outside her office to take James Comey to trial. They entered their appearance in Virginia fed court today -- and both normally work in the Eastern District of North Carolina. Nathaniel

Cousin of man taken by ICE: They just randomly showed up. He didn't do anything wrong. They just took him forcefully. They're scaring everybody around now. So I feel like a target too, even though I'm a US citizen.

Hate that it has come to this, but the Los Angeles Times has left its staff hanging with years of bad faith bargaining. I’d much rather be focused on doing critical reporting for you all in times like these, but since The Times can’t get serious at the table, I’m voting yes.

Update: Jess clarified that while she posted the picture, it was sent to her from another person patrolling - to post. They’re U.S citizens who were solely recording the agents. Here’s another angle from another community member.

Important to note, leaders have advised citizens to ‘get your cell phones out.’ Pritzker urged the public to post footage of federal agents. However, many people are scared to come forward afraid of retaliation from the federal agency. thehill.com/homenews/state…

So far, the ICE gang has shot & killed an unarmed man & lied about the circumstances; shot a woman 5 times for obstructing their vehicle; roughed up elderly women and zip-tied small children; shot a clergyman in the face with a pepper ball; marched through downtown Chicago,

On Sept. 27, President Trump described Portland, Ore., as a “War ravaged” city. But here is how federal officers described the scene outside the ICE building in southwest Portland on Sept. 25: “low energy.” The next day the same: “low energy.”

Pritzker: "It's unconscionable. This has never happened before. They're calling out troops onto the streets of a state that doesn't want them and they're not even telling us where they're gonna go, what they're gonna do. This hasn't happened I don't think since the Civil War."

Multiple Chicago schools went on lockdown today because of ICE, including my son’s and the one I’m on the council of. Spent the last two hours standing outside, trying to make sure nothing happens to these kids. This is horrible.

FACTS: There have been 331 homicides so far this year in Chicago, a city of 2.71 million people. This is, by a large margin, the lowest number in years; 120 fewer deaths than last year so far. Summer 2025 in particular saw the lowest number of murders for the city since 1965.

Based on the most recent reports from community members & rapid response teams, ICE is now arresting people - including U.S citizens- for ‘impeding.’ This is happening to the people that drive around honking to alert people that they’re in the area and those that record them.
