By far the most hilarious political story of the year is the Tories finding out their cunning voter ID law has suppressed their own supporters

When the last election was held, 2 May 2024 marked the latest possible date for the next general election – until this government extended its own term.

Rishi Sunak is now governing on ‘borrowed’ time.

what the fuck are the handcuffs for?

For the 100th time it is NOT illegal to claim asylum (and I don't care about any new international law breaking laws parliament may have passed saying otherwise)

This was a very serious question about a senior UK politician getting death threats through groups set up and promoted by Tory staffers. The PM didn't even bother to give it a proper response. He pledged to stand up to extremists - but apparently not if they're in his own party.

Sunak was rightly laughed at during when he had gall to actually say 'we can't have cherry picking of important international agreements' - oblivious to the irony he's been doing exactly that with the immoral, illegal Safety of Rwanda Act he made law last week.

Brexit appears to have finally broken the Daily Mail. They've published an honest headline about the subject for once.

Have they tried switching the newspaper off and on again?

Looks like the first month of not allowing dependents basically stopped any care workers coming (83% drop in health and care visas).

Seriously worrying re the ability of care homes to function given we already have a recruitment crisis.

These are not just migrants, they are asylum seekers who have not had their claims processed. They are potentially being deported to a country which is unsafe for asylum seekers but which Parliament has said by law is 'safe'.

And clearly being used for party political purposes

They’ve given up now. It seems to me that the Conservative Party’s strategy is to bury their heads in the sand until after the election, at which point they will blame the in-coming Labour government for the (escalating) consequences of Brexit and claim that it would have been…

This Syrian man thought he was attending a routine appt, then told he would be sent to Rwanda.

'When I went to sign they told me they want to give me papers. They took me aside and after that there was a police van. They took my phone and put me in a [cell]. I'm very scared.'

They’ve lost 3,500 asylum seekers.

But they did manage to find one - who was willing to go to Rwanda - and they agreed to pay him £3000 to be flown there, so they could fleetingly pretend their hideous little plan was underway.

Jeezus. The shabby desperation.

Been reassured by a Labour insider that this is bollocks. Would be, shall we say, extremely helpful for a shadow minister to say so on the record - some of us are at risk of losing our minds

Would be really interested to read some research on the radicalisation of the Telegraph comment section. It was always right-wing but didn’t use to read like the exclamations of an incel crying on his own in the corner of a pub

Spare a thought for poor Count Binface this Thursday. Years spent establishing himself as a joke candidate for London mayor, and then the Tories run Susan Hall.

This shocking exchange should be the end of Ben Habib's political career.

If Richard Tice were a real leader he'd take action.
