"Anne dropped on her knees and gazed out into the June morning, her eyes glistening with delight. Oh, wasn’t it beautiful? Wasn’t it a lovely place? Suppose she wasn’t really going to stay here! She would imagine she was. There was scope for imagination here." 🎨 F. Carmichael

Andrew Bellucci, who in the 1990s became one of the first chefs in New York City to achieve fame for pizza, inspiring a generation of chefs, then lost his job and reputation when an old crime caught up with him, died on Wednesday. He was 59. nyti.ms/3WOBtA4

With $40 million poured in by the creators of “South Park,” the refurbished Casa Bonita is reopening with the same 1970s vibe and drastically improved food. The Colorado restaurant went bankrupt during the pandemic but was rescued by the new owners. nyti.ms/3IYv4wz

ANNE OF GREEN GABLES (1st impression, 1st edition) was prepared for release in APRIL 1908. However, publication was delayed until June, probably a result of contracts with illustrators. The uncredited cover art was by George F. Gibbs, first published in The Delineator in 1905.

Schools expose children to a range of information. That is the opposite of #indoctrination. Parents who want control of what their kids are taught want the kids' education to be limited to what supports the narrow beliefs taught in the home. THAT is indoctrination!

So once more for the people at the back. This story is fake news. There was no child who wanted to identify as a cat. The article itself admits it. The "cat" element was introduced by one of the two students winding up their teacher.

It’s National Indigenous Peoples Day. A good day to reflect on the food stories and culture around food that we can listen and learn from our indigenous friends and chefs. IndigenousCulinary #NationalIndigenousPeoplesDay #IndigenousPeoples #INDIGENOUS

Similarly sized American cities have TimeOut, The Infatuation, a couple major newspapers with real food coverage and at least 1 or 2 mags. Sometimes more. Often 2+ critics. We have a best new restaurants list, BlogTo and…zero restaurant critics. (If u don’t count TikTok) So sad

This 2,000-year-old painting discovered in the ruins of Pompeii shows what may be a distant ancestor of modern pizza: a flat, round piece of dough with toppings. But it's not a pizza, the archaeologists who found it insisted on Tuesday. nyti.ms/42Xhf8E

The iconic magazine won’t have *any* staff writers and won’t be sold on newsstands starting next year under a new series of cuts by ⁦Disney⁩, its owner. Latest by me: washingtonpost.com/media/2023/06/…
