As questions are raised of the Sicilian government as to why preparations were not made, despite decades of warnings that climate change would destroy the island's water security, worth considering how well prepared the UK is. I think you can guess the answer.

I reported earlier this week that new windfarms were unlikely to add to household bills I was out by about 69p, according to new analysis by Cornwall Insight. That's how much it expects AR6 projects to add to typical bill in 2027-28, potentially rising to extra £4.59 in 2030-31

Save The Wye are pleased to see this report which confirms our view that simply TOO MUCH nutrient, a veritable cocktail of chemicals, is going into the river, which together with climate emergency demonstrates that pollution problem is multifactorial.🧵 cardiff.ac.uk/news/view/2838…

It is clear from this report that we must urgently change the way we care for the river. We have always said the phosphates are dangerous polluters. Now it is clear that other factors are just as important - particularly nitrogen, temperature and water flow. 2/5

leanahosea Just destroying greenfields (mitigate drought&floods and pass rainfall forwards) &increasing emisions. Ignoring danger of flashfloods, floods, sea level rises No apparent defence plans for on rivers/coast/no soilseal removal/no roof refuges/basements not being removed......

- hatchery fish were used in these protected streams - a measure questioned by many, but which seems to have been effective here. - non-native species of fish introduced for fishing were outcompeting the trout, barriers were introduced to restrict these. sportsmensalliance.org/news/apache-tr…

In a European context, non-native fish escaping from aquaculture can present similar challenges. theguardian.com/environment/20…

In a UK context, many emphasize the importance of incorporating the detailed knowledge of individual rivers held by people who work with & use rivers locally, could make action to restore biodiversity more effective. rossgazette.com/news/mixed-can…

leanahosea Might also be worth asking how prepared the UK is for the very different drainage and flood-control environment that ever-more extreme drought & deluge, + storm & sea-level-rise will cause. You can probably guess the answer to that one too.

gov.uk/government/new…. Deeply concerning that Clean Air isn’t one of the Govt’s five priorities. Why do we take breathing for granted?
