I'm calling for #SecurityNotSanctions for disabled people. The Tory govt planned changes to the Work Capability Assessment that would deny 424k people with serious mobility or mental health problems the UC support they need. The new govt has not ruled out continuing these cuts.

I am a palliative care doctor who is not opposed to AD. But on the eve of tomorrow's vote, it boils down to this. Enshrining in law a state-funded right to die, while not enshrine a similar right to the palliative care that might make life worth living, is deeply wrong. 🧵

Right now, being disabled in the UK is an avalanche of horror from every angle. Please step away if you need to. Please take care of yourself. There are enough of us to step into the gap whilst you rest. Looking after ourselves and each other is, in fact, resistance.

Labour’s plan for disabled people is clear: 🚨Force them into work. 🚨 Too sick to work? Cut their benefits anyway! 🚨Make homelessness legal so they can kick them out on the streets. 🚨 If all that doesn’t work - the assisted dying bill. 💀 The Labour Party - the eugenics party.

I think it's cruel and callous for the Government to be trying to balance its books on the backs of some of the most vulnerable. I’d urge any Labour MP who is concerned about this to vote against cutting support for disabled people.
