So enjoyed speaking at The Global Goals dinner last week.

As we enter the second half of the Goals, we must redouble our efforts for a successful IDA replenishment, to support the World Bank reform agenda and to act as long-term partners with the Global South.

UK aid has been badly managed in recent years. Labour will take a more strategic approach for greater impact & value for money:

➡️Return to 0.7% as fiscal circumstances allow

➡️Focus on the poorest people and countries

➡️Do more to boost jobs and growth with the global south

The Colonna Report makes clear that donors should have confidence in UNRWA.

Ministers must now come forward and explain how they intend to respond to the report and if they will restore future funding for UNRWA.

It is an essential lifeline in Gaza.

The crisis in Sudan due to the generals' year-long war is an utter catastrophe. We must not avert our gaze. Today I used an urgent question in Parliament to focus the Govt's attention on the plight of the Sudanese people. youtu.be/3Fn0nYjDqqk

My message in the US this week - with Labour the UK would:

➡️Restore development as a key pillar of our internationalism.

➡️Bring new and creative ideas to the table on debt, climate & private finance.

➡️Support partners in the Global South to eliminate poverty through growth.

Productive meetings with partners in Congress.

The US-UK special relationship is essential for our prosperity and security at home, but also for supporting the global institutions and systems which will unlock growth and economic development around the world.

Thanks to Melinda French Gates for her time to talk about the UK’s valued partnership with the Gates Foundation.

For real, lasting change we need governments, philanthropy and the private sector working together towards shared goals.

Enjoyed meeting World Bank Ajay Banga this morning.

Under a Labour government the UK will be fully behind the World Bank’s reform agenda to focus on creating growth and good jobs of the future .

We can start by creating more opportunities for women entrepreneurs worldwide.

Good to see Prime Minister Mia Amor Mottley and discuss what more the UK can do on debt sustainability and to help boost the international finance needed for climate change adaptation, especially in small island states like Barbados.

“If UNRWA can’t continue its operations, the whole humanitarian system in Gaza collapses.

Time has run out for hundreds of thousands of people across Gaza and the world has to act.”
