TIL about AI-generated Grokipedia, which created this frustratingly wordy article about the American IndyCar Series, complete with references to my own articles and others on the topic, but also some hallucinations and gaping holes in knowledge: grokipedia.com/page/american_…

My guess at the layout of the IndyCar DC race, based on these constraints: all roads at least 40 feet wide, pit is located at the widest street (upper right part in the diagram), and adequate room for run-offs. Length = 2.68 mi. Paddock on the streets around Nat'l Gallery of Art.

Crossover Madness | It's the matchup you all have been waiting for. Two heavyweights that have been successful in everything they drove. It's Nigel Mansell vs Juan Montoya. Overall motorsports resume in addition to Indycar. Vote below!

Reviving Bill Tempero's idea of giving young drivers more experience in older Indy cars! MKR should bring their fleet of DP01s on tour to underserved markets!

Today let's honor the Unser family's achievements at Phoenix by remembering Johnny Unser's 9th place finish at the 1996 IRL race.

Racin Gardner made his IndyCar debut at the 1996 Test in the West at Phoenix after competing in the American IndyCar Series for a couple years. The training evidently paid off as he qualified and raced in the 1996 Indy 500, his first and last IndyCar race!

Rick DeLorto at the 1996 Test in the West at Phoenix. He was there to take the USAC driver's test but did not complete it, leaving his fastest lap at only 119.008 mph.

Here's John Paul Jr. at the 1996 Test in the West at Phoenix. Still carrying an ex-Menard livery, this '93 Lola-Menard set a fast lap of 178.041 mph which is still faster than all the Indy cars testing at Phoenix so far this week.

I’m not convinced that CART teams selling old cars to IRL teams were a big factor in the IRL’s viability in 1996. There would’ve been enough older cars and the fleets from Menard, Simon and Foyt to fill the grid. Here are some of those from 1996 Test in the West at Phoenix.

F1 doing a demo run at the site of the 1915 Vanderbilt Cup race is the kind of thing that IndyCar should fight back against
