Yeah, it’s the phones.

Yeah, it’s the absences.

Yeah, it’s the apathy.

But, yeah, it’s us, too.

And the sooner we accept that, the sooner we can get going on making US better.

Accept us.

Better us.

🎓 A low pass rate or class average grade is NOT an indicator of rigor of the course, but rather an indicator of inadequate and/or practices. I'm talking to you, too, college professors.

A standardized test tells us nothing about our sensational kids.

The 'standard' these tests really measure is our consistent delivery of high quality Tier 1 learning.

Tests aren't about the kids.
But they are about the learning we designed & provided for them.

Kids are on their phones because their classes are boring. I see adults on their phones at meetings all the time.

A Tier 1 designed for learning for all.

You can stop looking everywhere else for ways to improve or for reasons why you aren't improving.

Point blank.

If where we are now, here at the end of the school year, looks a lot like last year, it is time to face the truth.

We may have added programs, personnel, interventions & spending, but we didn't ever address the thing we needed to the most.

Our daily Tier 1 learning.

Repeat after me: My body is a summer body as soon as it’s summer. My body is a beach body whenever it’s on the beach. 🌴

I can respect people arguing for and defending ideas, as long as those ideas do not dehumanize and marginalize. I get suspicious when people viciously, reactively, w/ narrow evidence, defend products using marketing language of those products. This is an epidemic in education.

I've been thinking a lot about consolidating conversations to prepare for .

What are some of your go-to prompts/questions for students (e.g., during an opportunity to turn and talk) while consolidating a task?

Adults in schools,

Imagine you work at a school where you feel:
Mistrusted
Disliked
Excluded
Unvalidated
Harrassed
Out of place
Unknown
Not believed in
And sometimes even Invisible.

Now imagine you're 9 years old.
