Yeah, it’s the phones.

Yeah, it’s the absences.

Yeah, it’s the apathy.

But, yeah, it’s us, too.

And the sooner we accept that, the sooner we can get going on making US better.

Accept us.

Better us.

Monte Syrie These posts have caused me to ask this to myself repeatedly over the last month, ask it when the conversation turns sour, ask it to myself before engaging with an off task student. This question has been a little balm at the end of the year. Thank you for all your power Sy!

My students are so conditioned to say 'I finished' and look to me for the next and the next...
Yesterday a student called out 'finished...(me just looking at them, ebrows raised)...oh I get to read my Manga!'
Yay! Celebrating 'I GET to read...' today.

Monte Syrie I'm feeling sad about this question today. The 4-year-olds down the hall are learning to read CVC words by sounding out each letter in succession three times before saying the word itself. This, dear reader, is so wrong on so many levels. This is not what education should be.

Lifelong learning isn't lifelong schooling.

I'm not sure our kids leave knowing the difference.

For if they did, we wouldn't have to talk about lifelong learning.

Living is learning.

They were learning before they came, while they stayed. and now after the leave.
