What does Cognitive Load Theory actually say? How does it help avoid overloading memory to maximize learning? How can we use it in the classroom? Join Dr. Zach Groshell (Zach Groshell) online, Oct 28, to get answer to all these questions! ow.ly/PwP350PS8bn

Rosenshine's Principles of Instruction summarizes the actions of the teachers with the most achievement gains. It's unknown in the USA despite Rosenshine being American. The following are forms of pushback and important considerations to take when implementing it in schools. 🧵1/

First session on the CP developments was very informative and has given some great insight into the way the IB is developing the post-16 pathways offered. Excited to properly plan out our new IBCP course now we’re accepted as official IBCP candidates! #IBGC2024

Great to hear from Gerald from NC today who spoke about how they successfully have implemented the CP alongside their long existing DP - and to meet other colleagues also in candidacy. Good connections made #IBGC2024

…and then finally an interesting session on deeper learning, sparking some good ideas about supporting development in our school. Future planning for deeper learning #IBGC2024

Good Saturday at #IBGC2024 - as we’re adding CP to our DP, the journey through authorization session was super informative, especially the common barriers at each stage. I loved the AI in the core session - thank you to Matt and Michele, I’ve got the website saved…1/2

…ready to share with colleagues and hopefully get some working minds together for how we can continue to develop our teaching practice to keep up with the fast changing AI landscape. Overall, an interesting conference getting the creative mind moving!

First SLT day back today - getting excited for the year ahead! Still got a fair bit to get sorted, but can already feel it’s gonna be a great year.

It is always good to question for different perspectives! I’m excited to see how AI continues to push education forward, but do still have a concern that if we don’t educate proper usage, then learning will suffer.

French or Spanish is much more than another subject. It's an introduction to another world. It's everything you love, just bigger & better. It's your pass to German, Russian, Chinese, Arabic, Farsi & more. And the best thing is, it's open to everyone, 'good at languages' or not.

Back into teaching lessons today and I’m excited to have our biggest crop of single linguist German students in the Middle School. Still an important and delightful language to know (and learn…and teach!).

Christopher Hughes MBE (@chrislinguist) 's Twitter Profile Photo

German is the most spoken native language in the EU, Spanish is the 2nd most spoken native language in the world & French is spoken across 5 continents. That's why the language you learn in school is your key to new horizons, new connections & new opportunities, whoever you are.

Students cannot be allowed to act however they want in classrooms. There must be accountability for actions. We are not preparing students for the workforce if they are allowed to be disrespectful in classrooms. This is also true at home. Parents must be parents.

Great thread - language teaching colleagues will recognize many of these strategies as fundamental to decoding texts in the TL.
