Boaler and her supporters apply the word misogyny liberally and selectively. When a man challenges Boaler, he’s misogynistic. But some of Boaler’s supporters have been very aggressive towards women who challenge her work and the same word is not applied. In fact they’re often

Banning smartphones in schools is good for learning and well-being.

New study of 400+ middle schools in Norway: after smartphone bans, girls had fewer mental health issues & better grades. Boys and girls were less likely to be bullied.

Smartphones belong at home or in lockers.

One of the most important applications of Cognitive load theory is the “Transient Information Effect.”  When information that is important to a required task disappears it hinders learning because students have to both remember & think about/analyze it

I’m learning more and more that I don’t want to be a school leader in the traditional sense; I want to teach well, research, and model practices to strengthen secondary ELA classrooms, which I think will lead to overall school success. Is that job?

Grading final exams right now! Highly recommend adopting software that allows for blind marking, randomizing order of exams and reusing grader’s comments. More fair for students and simplifies marking for profs. Can’t say enough good things about Crowdmark!

Most bizarre troll to date: a New Zealand “behavior scientist” stalker who fancied he/she/they could (uncharitably, of course) deduce my internal mental states.

One more for the blocklist.

As a friend of mine just observed, “everyone is combative these days.” What’s going on?

Does anyone know a simple tool for practitioners in schools who want to work in an evidence-informed way, to evaluate the quality and evidence an (interventional) study provides? This is a topic Adrie Visscher and I want to explore. Dylan Wiliam

Exactly this! Pace absolutely matters as does the constant flow of feedback in both directions between teacher and student.

Dennis Dill AKA Green Dragon Zach Groshell They ignore the reality that foundational skills must be in place before discovery or novel application.

When our # system was invented, 0 didn't exist. We needed a symbol for nothing & a place holder. Math evolves.

Why does anyone expect KIDS to discover number sense?!
