Tonight's Italian postwar avant-garde fest Barbican Centre by BBC Symphony Orchestra & Chorus et al was exhilarating & beautifully played throughout. Seen live second time, Berio's remarkable Sinfonia felt overlong, but rest of programme dazzled, especially Nicholas Daniel OBE 🇺🇦🏳️⚧️ in great Maderna Oboe Concerto #3

Very sad indeed - I feel so lucky to have sat in his lectures, and then interviewed him several times for @bbcradio3. Julian Anderson paid beautiful tribute to him on In Tune BBC Radio 3 this afternoon.
