#fieldworkfriday from last week’s #tectonicthursday in the #Nordfjord with Hans Jørgen Kjøll Luca Menegon @VidarSkogvoll Just a really cool little part of the geological world. #boudinage #eclogite
Just arrived in LongyearByen, Svalbard, for an amazing field expedition to study Cretaceous volcanism (black rocks on pictures). Expedition team consists of Njordian Olivier Galland - Volcanologist, Hans Jørgen Kjøll (MN Faculty: Research), Rafael Horota and Jonathan Runge (UNIS).
- 80 km hiked in steep mountains - 4000 m positive denivelation - 170 rock samples - 2190 drone photos for photogrammetry - wet feet, blisters, torn toenails, and tendonitis Thanks so much to Hans Jørgen Kjøll, Rafael, Jonathan and Petr for making this expedition a scientific success!
We had special fieldwork conditions in #Svalbard, as we had the R/V Clione (expedition boat of the #Czech #Arctic Research Station) as base camp. Landing every day, return to boat every evening after long hike for safe and warm sleep. Hans Jørgen Kjøll Rafael Kenji Horota

jobbnorge.no/en/available-j… 👇Postdoc opportunity to work Njord Univ. of Oslo on lower crustal #earthquakes with HR-#EBSD, nano-indentation and modelling. Do rocks preserve the record of high stresses required for deep crustal seismicity? Let's dive into the microstructure 🔬to find out!!
