i reviewed the wonderful book Beyond Data (The MIT Press @mitpress.bsky.social) by Elizabeth Renieris (@hackylawer) on new tech and human rights for The New Rambler newramblerreview.com/book-reviews/l…

On #EYBetterInovation, I welcomed The Institute for Ethics in AI’s Elizabeth Renieris (Elizabeth M. Renieris) for a conversation about her book, Beyond Data: Reclaiming Human Rights at the Dawn of the Metaverse, which calls for a new human rights-based approach to #data governance. podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/eli…

@UNITEHERE11 📘 Beyond Data ✍ Elizabeth M. Renieris (Elizabeth M. I have been an AI practitioner for 40 years but now I find how technology fits in with the future of society, privacy, and human rights to be more interesting. My latest book purchase is Beyond Data: Reclaiming Human Rights at the Dawn of the Metaverse written by Elizabeth M. Renieris

2023 started off strong. I published my 1st book (mitpress.mit.edu/9780262047821/…), bought our 1st house. Then I was diagnosed with an extremely rare brain tumor, lost my vision, had 3 major surgeries, 30+ sessions of radiation & haven't been able to work since. Take nothing for granted.

If people take only one thing from this announcement, I hope it is this: “Existing legal authorities apply to the use of automated systems & innovative new technologies just as they apply to other practices.” 👀 Elizabeth M. Renieris
