There’s been so much discussion about not making the same governance failures with AI as we did with social media. But what does that mean?

#1–don’t relieve platforms from a duty of care. We need to create incentives for responsible & effective action, not reward negligence.

“Even if one of [these bills] passes, it will be exceedingly hard to enforce, given the anonymity of many of these online posters & the penchant for deleted songs to pop back up.”

See this for the insanity of thinking that opt-outs are a way of somehow safeguarding consent. This is broken—by design. There is NO ethical alternative to requiring AI companies to affirmatively securing consent prior to use. So how about we do the right thing?

Unbelievable that Microsoft think this is cool when it can mostly be just used by fraudsters.

I don't understand, there are more ethical, technically challenging & rewarding projects in AI to go after, why this one?

What's the point for this Microsoft Research?

My advice:

“Pay attention to the voices of those marginalized in current discussions…Center the voices of women, of people of color, of poets & other artists. AI promises to remake a new society. We owe it to ourselves to build a better one than the one we currently inhabit.”
