Wow. Yet another big reveal of #DFO bureaucrats suppressing wild salmon conservation science. Yesterday it was mouth rot disease on salmon farms. Today it's endangered Fraser steelhead. When will Justin Trudeau confront the corruption at DFO? theglobeandmail.com/canada/british… #cdnpoli

What is disturbing about this piece is not only that DFO managers put harvest before conservation, but that steelhead are only the first in a cavalcade of endangered Fraser salmon pops requiring (by law) DFO action if they are to avoid extirpation. Doesn’t bode well

Love this article about "culvert hunters," working to increase #fishpassage for #wildsalmon. If we can develop w/ consideration for habitats, wild salmon will persist! #Connecetdwaters #naturenow Lynda V. Mapes ow.ly/972n50EPJXT

Def of transformative is ‘Causing a marked change’, but the PSSI’s promises of shotgun spending, more consultation, more hatcheries, and improved harvest fails to describe what the marked change will be, how it will be measured, and who will tell us when it has been achieved

Remember when the Minister announced that 79 commercial fisheries would be closed to protect and restore threatened & endangered populations? Turns out it was untrue. The 2nd ‘closed’ fishery opens tomorrow. This, a Fraser pink fishery when sockeye, coho, & steelhead are present

Writing this article on the History, Myths, and Realities of BC’s commercial salmon closures took me on a long journey from when I first began engaging with DFO on salmon management in the 80’s, a time when salmon were abundant, until today. issuu.com/theosprey/docs…

Vancouver has many buried streams but has been working to daylight a number of them. Great to see spawning salmon are returning to Spanish Banks Creek - and that families can get out and watch! #restoration #streamkeeping #urbansalmon #yvr x.com/ParkBoard/stat…

This is great short video that will help forest professionals conserve denning habitat for black bears in their operations in coastal forests.

Streams of origin of threatened and endangered chinook likely to be encountered in new recreational fisheries being proposed by DFO. Any near you? Most First Nations living near them are strongly opposed.

Our paper on population genetics of fishers in BC has been published in Journal of Mammalogy! This work greatly improves our understanding of how populations are structured and will help guide fisher conservation and recovery in the province. Martes Working Group youtube.com/watch?v=AtaJhR…
