Gripping insight evening about Longborough Festival Opera's May/June UK premiere of Avner Dorman's 2017 opera about the Wagner legacy. Not quite what you'd expect ... It opens with a quartet of swanee whistles but also tackles the thorny stuff. Susan Bullock is Cosima. lfo.org.uk/opera/wahnfried

My first thought is, "Which Ravel piano concerto do they mean?" Then I think, "This is Friday Night is Music Night. The other one is far too abrasive ..." Or possibly just too left-field.

Real and facsimile ... The opening bars of Stravinsky's Rossignol (composed c.1908 @bbcradio3 right now) sound suspiciously like Nuages from Debussy's Nocturnes (premiered 1900).

Thank you, British Airways for this 'limited time' offer - just days after you limited my time at my destination by five hours, partly a consequence of shaky crew rostering. Still, you kindly extended it by an hour on the way back - another crew rostering issue.

Some Opera not so Rara to round off this evening's adventurous concert Cadogan Hall of songs by Donizetti and Berlioz: Marie-Nicole Lemieux, Michael Spyres and pianist Giulio Zappa in the final scene from Carmen! (She got her ring back during the applause.)

The most enjoyable production of Die Zauberflöte that I've ever seen Royal Academy of Music yesterday evening, but I did wonder whether Jamie Manton had taken a little inspiration from Ken Russell's contribution to the 1987 portmanteau movie Aria. youtube.com/watch?v=CmvvqV…

Exciting to attend the world premiere BergenNasjonaleOpera last night (reporting for Opera with Opera News) of the darkly lyrical - and site-specific - Asle og Alida, composed by Grawemeyer Award-winner Bent Sørensen to a libretto by The Nobel Prize laureate Jon Fosse. bno.no/eng/performanc…

IKEA (no matter how it's pronounced) is a great store in many respects, but does it need to have a massive sales pitch made for it on the BBC Radio 4 Today programme? I can manage to assemble my own opinions, thanks.

Wonderfully disingenuous message LinkedIn from Saïd Business School. Presumably what it really means is that I would "make a valuable addition" to the school's fee revenue for 2025.
