A really nice and accessible summary by Isabella Cisneros in preLights of what our #Hydractinia genome sequencing and analysis efforts have uncovered - especially that Hydractinia uses a shared gene toolkit found in almost all animals. Check it out! prelights.biologists.com/highlights/the…

An interesting study on the early #evolution of associative learning in a #cnidarian in The New York Times this week: nytimes.com/2023/09/22/sci…

Congratulations to National Human Genome Research Institute's Dr. Eric Green (Eric Green) and NEI's Dr. Michael F. Chiang (Michael F. Chiang, MD) for their election to National Academy of Medicine. #NIH_IRP

Our latest paper in GBE (Genome Biology and Evolution) describes the identification of 1000s of CNEs in 51 #genomes, providing evidence that transposable elements are a major source of CNEs that may play a critical role in the evolution of regulatory potential. Check it out! doi.org/10.1093/gbe/ev…

Congratulations to Julie Segre (National Human Genome Research Institute), Stephen Chanock (National Cancer Institute), Jürgen Wess (NIDDK), Erin Lavik (National Cancer Institute), Daniel Reich (NINDS), and Gisela Storz (NICHD News) on their election to The American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) class of 2023

Thanks Eric Green for the outstanding research environment and support. Colleagues like you were key at every step to bring genomics to new areas of biomedical science 🙏

A great study on the evolution of bioluminescence by @quattrinia and Casey Dunn’s groups featured in this morning’s New York Times. A nice read while enjoying your morning coffee! nytimes.com/2024/04/23/sci…

Our paper providing the first comprehensive analysis of the #Hydractinia genome is out in Genome Research! Our orthology analyses have revealed that there is shared ancestry with other animals in the form of a conserved toolkit for regeneration. 👉🏼bit.ly/4dlJKTJ

Congratulations to the #NIH_IRP's Drs. Stephen J. Chanock (National Cancer Institute), Lindsey A. Criswell (National Human Genome Research Institute and NIAMS), Niki Moutsopoulos (@NIDCR), Avindra Nath (NINDS), and Nina Schor on their election to National Academy of Medicine!
