โ โ โ โ BBC Proms 68 A MIDSUMMER NIGHTโS DREAM Garsington Opera Philharmonia Orchestra - Strong cast and top orchestra project as best they can in a fine company's first #Proms visit - David Nice finds an eerie beauty sometimes faintly glittering theartsdesk.com/classical-musiโฆ

'The magic truly took over' Arts Desk What an unforgettable evening at the enchanting Royal Albert Hall following our BBC Proms debut with Britten's A Midsummer Night's Dream with the Philharmonia Orchestra A dream-like experience from start to finish. ๐ธ BBC / Chris Christodoulou

Get a sense of what we've been missing by reading Alexandra Coghlan on the Last Night. Such writing! Such wisdom! Welcome back Alexandra.

And here we have part of the problem. That an apparent โadviser to Department for Culture, Media and Sportโ seems not to be aware that both Scottish Opera & English National Opera are now part-time companies (SO for 20 yrs now) beggars belief. Little wonder that the #Opera sector in the UK is collapsing. #SaveWNO 1/2 ๐งต

1st night #Rigoletto Welsh National Opera last night & industrial action by #Chorus & #Orchestra. That Cyngor Celfyddydau Cymru | Arts Council of Wales & Arts Council England are bringing the company to its knees is simply criminal, as are proposals to make the musicians part-time. 1/ ๐งต

Wonderful opening night of the season English National Opera with an old favourite #ENOBoheme. A brilliant production with a young cast which brought great life to the piece. โค๏ธโค๏ธโค๏ธโค๏ธ

Spirit-lifting evening at #ENOElixir: a witty, affectionate staging with lovely turns from romantic leads Rhian Lois & Thomas Atkins. As ever, the Chorus (2nd photo!) sound spectacular and give the production such momentum with their charisma & ceaseless energy. A *lot* of fun.

Excoriating words from Sheila Noakes: โThe govt must take a long, hard look at whether Arts Council England is fit for purpose.โ โThe govt needs to take responsibility & act. They must step into the #Opera space before ACE ruins it for good.โ Lisa Nandy MP we need action! Department for Culture, Media and Sport #SaveWNO

For anyone that missed our English National Opera production of Gilbert and Sullivanโs Yeomen of the Guard in 2022 itโs being repeated this evening on BBC4 at 22:15pmโฆ. bbc.co.uk/programmes/m00โฆ
