Afternoon walks in nature. There was some great noticing of fungi and patterns in tree trunks. 🌲 🍄 🍁

Last evening together so we thought we’d have a bonfire. Marshmallows + spooky stories = lots of fun! 🔥

To recap our model text, we came up with a ‘one minute montage’ of our myth, Odysseus. It had to cover all key parts of the story and be under a minute long.

In maths, we are learning how to use a protractor.

Hello from Year 1 Emerald👋 We have had an amazing first week back to school! We have been learning our new routines and golden rules 😁

Our new story: Beegu! Look out for our text map and help us practise at home 🏡

Today we learnt about John Ystumllyn. We remember him today because he was one of the first known black gardeners. A yellow rose was named after him. Yellow symbolises friendship. We planted a rose in the playground for Black History Month to help us to remember John’s story.

We also planted some other bulbs in the big pots to remember the amazing lives of other black people. Some of these bulbs were donated by Year 1 parents. Thank you!

We won the attendance cup! Hooray!! 🏆🥳

In science, we went on an autumn walk and observed all the changes. We collected some leaves and, in art, we sketched them. 🍂🍁

We looked closely at number 6 in Mastering Number. At the end of the week we were challenged to represent 6 in as many ways as we could. Emerald Class

We met some nocturnal animals this morning! 🐍🐸 It was great to spot some of the body parts we’ve been learning about and ask about their diet and predators.

Today we went on a material hunt around the school with Emerald Class. We were looking for slate, glass, wood, plastic and brick.

We had a great trip to the Museum of Home 🏠 We saw how homes have changed over time through objects and materials.

Dressing up, free books, special storytimes and a parade - can it be World Book Day every day?! 🌍📚📆
