Recently, I've come to believe that sociologists' greatest strength, extending beyond comparative-historical ones, may be their ability to compare more effectively than anyone else. Anyone who wants to use sociology to make a better sense of the world may benefit from this book.

A terrific collection of contributions not least for essays by Sociology@Brown Josh Pacewicz & Michigan Sociology Steinmetz & beloved Xiaohong Xu. I so appreciate seeing that the volume is dedicated to his memory. Thank you Damon Mayrl for this inspired thread & volume w Nicholas Hoover Wilson

Thanks to Carly Knight and Dr. Christopher Powell for their kind blurbs, and Eric I Schwartz for his editorial guidance and faith in this project. You can buy the book through the Columbia Univ Press website--it makes a lovely gift, too. We hope you'll give it a read! 19/19

The University of Houston community heard from sociologist M. Sierra-Arévalo about the underlying forces behind police behavior and his book, The Danger Imperative. His research addresses the culture of violence within law enforcement institutions.

I’m learning so much from these new books about technology, anti-trafficking, sovereign funds, digital economies, commercial dating, queer mobilization, the governance of infectious diseases, rise of Chinese elites and so so much more!

Prop 1 passed. CA is going to get 11,500 more 'beds.'

Reupping this thread about why 'bed' doesn't mean anything - whether Prop 1 will help or harm will depend enormously on what kind of 'beds' actually get built, who runs them, and how we demand accountability from them.
