Interesting UniversityWorldNews piece on higher education 'reforms' in Georgia - “It’s highly likely that these reforms will be used to target those who express critical opinions about government policies within universities.”

"One of the best ways for universities to detoxify their campuses is to stop taking sides. But do they really care enough?" W. Mackesy, AFFS co-founder. Article in Telegraph re letter sent to all universities by 7 key free speech groups & academics calling on vice-chancellors

If you’re still not sure who the bullies are in the “debate” over women’s spaces watch this baying crowd trying to silence a tiny, dignified group of women while screaming … “Trans Power!”. It’s as if the whole story of the last decade had been compressed into one clip.

Woman of the Day astronomer Maria Winckelmann (1670-1720) of Germany, the second woman astronomer to be published in the Holy Roman Empire since Maria Cunitz. It’s her day because OTD in 1702, she became the first woman to discover a comet. Did she get the credit for it? Oh I

I am saying this very kindly but firmly: If you misunderstood or worse misled people about what the law currently says - you are the problem. Not the people forced to get confirmation as to what is correct by the highest courts. By all means now campaign for a change in the law..

"You may believe that what she said was unpleasant, stupid and offensive, but should she be silenced? The answer is no, not if you believe in free speech." NeilMackay makes a good point. Let Chapman speak; voters can decide her political future next year. heraldscotland.com/politics/viewp…

Moving tribute to our former student Magdalen Berns. One day the university will claim her with pride, just as it now claims the magnificent Edinburgh Seven. All these women (and many others) have faced hostility for speaking up for women's rights at the University of Edinburgh.

Thank you Strathclyde Law School. This is what universities are supposed to do: provide a forum where controversial social issues can be discussed robustly and ideas can be proposed and refuted according to established scholarly convention. More of this sort of thing, please.

Prior to the event (on women's rights) where Julie was assaulted he tried to intimidate organisers into adding him as a speaker. Needless to state, no GC speaker has ever been included or demanded inclusion in any of the many events platforming gender-identity ideology at UoE.

Our UCU branch beclowning themselves again. "No clarification was given by the [Supreme Court] ruling of what characterises a ‘biological woman’ (are trans women not biological?) and why this should exclude trans women." They are stuck in no-debate. ucuedinburgh.org.uk/blog/l65m8mrlh…

When Connie Shaw tried to have real-life conversations about a mandated orthodoxy on her campus, the outraged and hyperbolic letters were sadly inevitable. Signed by society leaders who may not even have consulted members before jumping on the bandwagon on their behalf.

We’ve a big problem with free speech on campus. The intolerant don’t represent the majority, but they feel empowered by universities themselves with their Stonewall subscriptions and deference to trans activism. More power to the students who push back. Stand with them!
