Parents... please check your children's candy tonight. I just went through Salomé Athena's haul and I found a copy of the Jorge Luis Burges short story collection "The Garden of Forking Paths". This metatextual exploration may be too advanced for young readers.

Great Ormond St children's hospital has begun advising parents on how air pollution may worsen children's health, partly in response to the death of 9-year-old Ella Adoo-Kissi-Debrah in which the coroner ruled air pollution "made a material contribution". theguardian.com/environment/20…

My latest for nature: AI's environmental costs are soaring. The new energy-hungry models for video, text, and image could create an energy crisis - and impact drinking water reserves. We urgently need action from industry, researchers, and legislators. nature.com/articles/d4158…

The housing crisis is a health crisis. Providing safe, affordable public homes would have the twin impact of reducing the strain on our overwhelmed healthcare system & providing the basic necessity of shelter. It all makes sense and it’s a political choice not to do so

54 y/o Dev Prasad Ahirwar is one of the few survivors of a near-fatal heat stroke. His story demonstrates that vulnerability to heat stress is woven by a complex web of factors, & today, survival for the poorest is often driven by sheer luck: india.mongabay.com/2024/07/surviv…

So, like, are the media going to even mention North Herefordshire or Waveny Valley? You know, you'd think the Greens, historically viewed as very city focused, winning two rural Conservative heartlands might be something political journalists wished to discuss...

I just can’t get past Labour winning 65% of seats off 34% of the vote. Absolutely wild mismatch between the headline result and, well, everything else. Britain is now a multi-party system, and first-past-the-post can’t cope.

On this day in 2013, an artist called Audrey Amiss died alone in her south London flat, aged 79. She documented the last day of her life by pasting some food packaging into a scrapbook, and recording the things she noticed in her final hours.

I wanted to re-post this, but without the photo. No one needs to see the killer and the victim loved up before he murdered her. For centuries women have been blamed for their own murders by the men who supposedly loved them. What did SHE do to MAKE him kill her? Enough.
