“…low pay has long necessitated that North America’s best women ballplayers go abroad to Europe, Asia and Australia to supplement…their WNBA incomes.” Prior to #WNBA era, they went overseas, including to 🇫🇷 as France And US Voices note. Great piece Theresa Runstedtler CNN Opinion

Trying to understand the #NCAA playbook to avoid free labor markets for athlete services? Read “Black Ball” by Theresa Runstedtler and cut and paste much of the NBA’s 1965-76 legal and PR strategy. But, unlike NBA owners, continue to fight against good faith collective bargaining.

RIP. Just today I was reading about Bob Love in Theresa Runstedtler’s excellent book “Black Ball.” The treatment of Love and Norm Van Lier by the Bulls, reporters and fans during a holdout over broken salary promises was emblematic of 1970s basketball stars’ struggles.
