Note that the article provides many other examples of disabled patients being mocked, disbelieved or otherwise treated with a lack of respect (not to mention not being protected from Covid). This must change. We are no less deserving of healthcare than anyone else. /2

Dr tells disabled woman she “has a very odd shape” before he recommended skipping Pap test. He assumed her disabilities meant she wasn’t having sex.

This is what disabled patients face accessing healthcare. It’s undignified, discriminatory & traumatic: bbc.com/news/uk-wales-

NEW data on the Escaping Violence Payment has just been released by the government.

Over half the applicants are having their claims rejected.

This is means-testing at it's absolute worst: jeopardising the lives of people experiencing intimate partner violence

Broome man accused of cable tying three Indigenous children pleads not guilty to assault

Very little media on this horrific crime. It’s clearly an inconvenient narrative when victims are Indigenous and perpetrators are non Indigenous. nit.com.au/30-04-2024/111

$925 mil over 5 yrs? That’s all women get? To help them reach out to support services- but not to FUND those services?! Which only receive half the funding needed to meet demand? After 50BILLION to Defence? And no national prevention program or Govt-run DV death toll? Disgraceful

'I believe you.' -- something I say A LOT. Sometimes, this Is enough to make people cry, because medicine has a bad habit of assuming people 'fake' their symptoms.

Have you been accused of (directly/indirectly) 'faking it' by your medical team? Please comment. ❀‍đŸ©č

That’s it?

Renaming an existing payment to help women escape DV and some social media regs and tech?

That’s it?

To address a national crisis?

That’s it?

No changes to policing or justice systems?

No changes to media conduct?

No changes to accountability?

That’s it?

There's already a payment for this called the 'escaping violence payment'. Why not just start believing the women who apply for that one?

This makes it sound like those approved for a payment to help leave a violent home (only 50% of applicants) get $5000.

It wouldn’t go very far anyway, but it’s not $5k. Thousands of dollars gets locked up in what are effectively vouchers for the providers who administer it.

Ppl rushing to defend and protect the most powerful man in this country yet have voiced no concerns about his ongoing complicity in a genocide (which has seen the slaughter of 9000+ women) will be the thing that breaks my brain, isn’t it

The government has made a lot of fuss about tackling wage theft.

On May Day, we remind them of the jobs being done for pennies by:

- disabled people in sheltered workshops
- incarcerated people in prison labour
- welfare recipients in forced volunteering and Work for the Dole

Lots of misunderstanding about the Australian Bureau of Statistics’ decision not to ADD ethnicity to . The Australian census has NEVER included ethnicity. Consultation revealed a desire for the ethnicity to be included but the ABS found it couldn’t add it. đŸ§¶

When a patient helpfully shares a study doesn’t align with lived experience, which generally agrees with what the lead author also said about being unsure about measuring PEM earlier in the paragraph, it is characterized as “pushback.”

You’ve got to be kidding me. Insulting.

I’m genuinely curious why 15,000 people follow Jay Jay.

If you think Jay Jay’s behaviour is acceptable because they’re on the “right side”, please unfollow me. I’m not going to be the follow police but I have no interest in knowing you if you don’t see this for what it is.
