You know what hurts more than the isolation, sickness & watching people pretend covid is over? Remembering the brief months in 2020 where we ALL came together. Where the vulnerable were protected & disabilities accommodated. Seeing it WAS possible & was simply abandoned? It hurts

'Hospital patient spent nine days in locker room'
Would anyone sitting in their armchair at home like to diagnose why this 23 year old woman has
Pain in her heart
Fainting when she stands
Racing heartbeat

A personal post in 2 parts:

1/ Someone I 💕 needs a specialist but wait times are dangerously long because of our specialist shortage

2/ As a doctor who resisted large $ offers from 🇺🇸to stay in 🇨🇦, I’ve lost something important than money: my family’s safety

These things and poor outcomes in healthcare is EXPONENTIALLY multiplied when you’re racialized, racialized women/girls and/or disabled:

Maybe I’m naive but I thought that as people got sick more often & watched people become disabled they would take covid & public health seriously. I didn’t think that 4 years in we would be halting testing & seeing avian flu spread. We’re going backwards & no one seems to care.

I am at a Boston-area ER now with a sick family member — I can confidently say whatever you’ve read about how bad the health care capacity crisis in Massachusetts is, it’s worse. No hospital beds available and 104 very sick people spilling out wherever there is spare space.

Every serious health issue I’ve had over the last 20+ years was dismissed as anxiety by male doctors.

Male doctors almost kiIIed my nan by dismissing an overactive thyroid as anxiety, for 10 years.

They said it was because her husband died and not having a man made her anxious.

Four years ago, we had a very bad president. We also had a broadly unanimous global agreement that Covid was bad and we should try to stop it. I could count on most of the people in my life to take precautions and care about not getting me sick.
It is significantly harder now.

Painfully illuminating thread about lung damage in a young person after mild Covid. Please remember - Covid is a multi system disease capable of damaging every organ. A “mild” case doesn’t mean there won’t be long term damage & without money for expensive testing you may not know

I’m grateful this article mentions rising hostility towards mask wearers as a reason people stay home. We refuse to adopt clean air policies that would make public spaces safer - giving folks no option but to mask. If they face anger & aggression - it’s no wonder they stay home.

I sooooo badly wanna go live somewhere where ppl are just normal about masks and didn’t turn them into some massive referendum on political freedom while also non stop complaining about being sick for the last 3 years

This is about as sensible as the hospitals who announce they’re dropping mask mandates because Covid cases in hospital have dropped. It’s almost as if the masks are the reason the cases dropped! If your staff are sick in rising numbers - get them wearing respirators!

my story isn’t terminal. when i realized i couldn’t see my guests’ faces 3’ from me - after driving 40 minutes to work in an anxious, overwhelmed, exhausted haze - i went to the emergency room & told them it wasn’t a migraine.

they gave me toradol & sent me home, still blind.
