Long thread warning! So, GoA released an “Action Plan” to modernize primary care yesterday. Since I’ve criticized the lack of any action in this domain, I thought it only fair to carefully read the plan and provide my thoughts. /1

1/ I haven't posted much lately but I'll come out of hiatus to say this... I love my NP colleagues, but they are not equivalent to a family doctor.

And allow me to say what the government of Alberta won’t. It’s not too late to get your annual flu vaccine and your COVID booster. You can get them for free at any pharmacy usually with no appointment and you can do both at the same time if you like.

So excited that my good friend and colleague Sharon Bal is running for OMA board again. Her experience is crucial to drive the board towards being more inclusive! Consider voting for her!

Please vote for your OMA Board directors in this year’s elections. A huge thanks to Sharon Bal for your work and advocacy to date, and hoping you will be reelected to continue your work.

Representation matters and IMO you couldn’t find a better person to represent you and the profession than Sharon Bal. If you’re a physician in Ontario make sure you vote (the deadline is Feb 2nd)

According to CIHI_ICIS data, family doctors deliver 52% of all medical services in Canada, yet they account for just 5.7% of total national health spending. Review the evidence on the true impact of Family Doctor Services. ow.ly/Aeiw50Quuek

“It is becoming increasingly challenging to tend to more complex patients with worsening SDOH using thinly stretched resources. His health care team did everything possible to help him but could not treat his primary diagnosis — poverty” A devastating true story

This is a blatant lie/gaslighting. As a Family Physician, two examples of uninsured groups I see frequently are young people working part time or low paying jobs without benefits and older adults retiring before age 65 who lose their employee sponsored benefits.

The misrepresentation of screening benefits/harms in this Canadian Family Physician article is profoundly concerning. Benefits from evolving technologies and treatments for cancer are indisputable as are advantages of earlier stage diagnosis. My response in eLetter 🧵 cfp.ca/content/69/11/…

Fan-Wah Mang has been a family doctor for more than 20 years. Rising costs, new administrative duties and subsequent burnout have made it impossible to keep her clinic open torontolife.com/city/family-do…

High River is one of the busiest rural medical teaching sites in Southern AB. It has historically been among the most stable sites, previously so stable there were discussions about having its own residency program.

Went to a great panel discussion on health misinformation moderated by the amazing Pam Roach and featuring dedicated folks like Timothy Caulfield. I learned about misinformation but more about bravery and commitment to science in the face of harsh critics. Well done.
