"The Government's defeat on the #DataBill yesterday shows how important transparency is. Tech development must not come at the expense of the creators whose work underpins it." Deborah Annetts CRA Chair praises the work of Baroness Kidron in supporting creators.

What is the matter with this Labour Government. Their actions are beyond words as they choose tech companies and generative AI over home grown UK creative industries. I used to be a Labour voter but no more ISM theguardian.com/technology/202…

Away from the horror of the Govt's approach to generative AI, so wonderful to be at the Kings Garden party yesterday at Buckingham Palace. A great day ISM

This week, the EU and UK music industries united and urged our political leaders to remove barriers to touring Europe. We hope the upcoming summit allows touring artists to enjoy 'the enormous benefits which closer cultural exchange would bring' 👇 loom.ly/ubZO1C0

At tomorrow's EU-UK Summit, our political leaders must reset our cultural exchange. UK musicians need to be able to tour in Europe. Our latest Brexit report Paying the price offers the solutions needed to make this possible. Read more 👇 loom.ly/f7EOpTI

"I think the government are just absolute losers" Sir Elton John says "a machine isn't capable of writing anything with any soul in it" as he sets out his opposition to the government's plans to allow AI companies to use copyrighted work #BBCLauraK bbc.in/3YM0C0A

Take a few minutes to listen to Sir Elton John speak out against the Government's plans to betray musicians and the creative industries in favour of big tech 👇

We thank Baroness Kidron for her amazing resilience as she achieves another huge win (287 to 118) in the Lords in support of her amendments to the Data Bill. Don't understand why Govt is so resistant to tech cos being subject to transparency. ISM thetimes.com/article/bd7760…

Great to see Govt addressing the many issues which Brexit has caused businesses. BUT apart from some warm words, Govt has not tackled the mountain of red tape Brexit has caused musicians if they perform in the EU. Please Nick Thomas-Symonds don't forget our musicians. ISM

We're pleased to see the UK and EU have acknowledged the value of touring artists at yesterday's UK-EU summit. This is a positive step forward, but we need urgent action from Government to remove the barriers that stop musicians touring in Europe 👇 loom.ly/W_mMtfw

Baroness Kidron delivered a powerful speech yesterday, just before her transparency amendments to the Data Bill were passed in the House of Lords. 'Silicon Valley have persuaded government that it is easier to redefine theft than make it pay for what it stole' 👇

1 minute of UK minister Chris Bryant suggesting there is uncertainty re. what copyright law says about AI training. There is not. Commercial gen AI training on ©️ work without a licence is illegal in the UK. The 'uncertainty' line is a justification for upending copyright law.

“People sometimes get the idea that those who create for a living are in some way afraid of new technology.  As an artist w/ a career of 40 years behind me, I can tell you nothing is further from the truth. Creators are entrepreneurial, innovative, risk-takers. They have to be.”

Hugely disappointing to see Government, once again, remove important and crucial Lords amendments from the Data Bill, that would serve to enforce existing copyright law; proportionate transparency measures requiring AI firms to disclose to the owner when they’ve used their work.

Classical music has a remarkable way of expressing emotion. It can move us deeply, but it can also bring a sense of calm and stillness. In this video, I share two of my favourite pieces — gentle, soothing works that may help your children settle and drift peacefully to sleep.

The The Labour Party government has rejected - for the third time - requirements for AI companies to disclose their training data. These had been proposed by an overwhelming majority in the House of Lords, and were supported by *all* other parties. They were supported by huge numbers

Great to see Women & Equalities Committee endorsing what ISM has been saying since 2018 & our groundbreaking report Dignity 1. Last Govt failed to act on report from Women & Equalities Committee . Now we need action from Justin Madders on NDAs and better protection for freelancers to stop misogyny in music
