What we're seeing at a local level could easily repeat itself at the next general election. Imagine waking up in 2029 to a government supported by less than 30% of the public. This is an emergency. We must scrap First Past the Post before it completely destroys our democracy.

The new Mayor of Cambridgeshire and Peterborough won 28% of the vote, on 33% turnout. There was no option to pick a second preference. Like in the West of England, the winning candidate was elected by less than 10% of the electorate. This is not sustainable. FPTP must go.

I’ve joined 41 MPs demanding that David Lammy comes clean over damning allegations that UK arms exports to Israel continued despite a supposed suspension. If true, it would be a grave breach of the Ministerial Code — & raises urgent questions about whether Parliament was misled.

If a building is in the Developer Contract, you'd think the developer is obliged to pay for a waking watch / alarm if their assessments say interim measures are needed. Nope. Leaseholders are still forced to pay for the useless waking watch 👇🏼 This is "justice" the Ministry of Housing, Communities & Local Gov way.

Keir Starmer A reminder that this govt are giving the greenlight to many more homes being built as leasehold and fleecehold. This means more unsuspecting buyers ensnared into debt traps! Abolish leasehold for real homeownership. Don’t leave commonhold a few minutes before the next GE.

Keir Starmer 🚨FLEECEHOLD ALERT🚨 Until your government tackles corporate thieves levying uncapped and unregulated ‘estate management fees’, it doesn’t matter how hard you work to pay a mortgage off because these cheats have 1/5 UK homeowners trapped into paying whatever they demand. 🤷‍♂️

Unless it’s a #leasehold ofcourse, in which case you’ve signed your savings away to an opaque rentier structure, which puts you on the hook for unlimited service charges and ground rents. #leasehold is financial ruin, NOT a home.

"As many as one fifth of all conveyancing firms in the UK — about 1,200 — are still refusing to take on the legal work for any purchase or sale involving any block of flats above five storeys due to fears over flammable cladding or flammable insulation." thetimes.com/life-style/pro…

Things that come as standard in a new build include, doubling ground rents, escalating service charges, combustible materials, structural defects. Solar panels should fix it Matthew Pennycook MP? Do NOT buy new builds in the UK. #LeaseholdScandal #EndOurCladdingScandal

35 years of privatisation. 35 years of excessive profits. 35 years of rising bills. There is no market solution. Take water into public ownership now!

❗LEASEHOLD IS A COST OF LIVING EMERGENCY Devastating report on leasehold in the capital from the London Assembly Housing Committee out today. They made similar interventions in 2020 and 2012. Hopefully it’s the last inquiry and report we see before this government fulfils
