Harper had 85% support after the 2004 election. Scheer can’t even break 50% among Conservative Party supporters. Andrew Scheer can’t unite our party. He can’t beat Justin Trudeau. For the good of the country and our party, Scheer must resign.

“Harper's Conservatives lost in 2004, but they improved their performance in ways that would set them up for future wins. Harper promised to do more in Quebec. Scheer ... picked up no additional seats in Quebec.” cbc.ca/news/politics/…

“It is hard to think of a single Liberal weakness Scheer used to advantage. He failed to connect with swing voters in Canadian suburbs and never provided solid answers to obvious questions about his social conservatism.” torontosun.com/opinion/column…

“Polls conducted during the election campaign suggest that Scheer himself might be the problem. An analysis of data from recent campaigns shows no party leader has seen their approval rating during an election campaign worsen more than Scheer's did.” cbc.ca/news/politics/…

“The truth is that the only people who are afraid of Scheer is his caucus. I don’t know a single Liberal who isn’t giddy at the idea of running another campaign against him. Behind closed doors they all tell me they hope we fail to get rid of him.” thepostmillennial.com/scheer-must-go/

Conservatives would be wise to remember this fact before they double down on Scheer’s weak leadership. Scheer should continue to play a role in our party – just like Stockwell Day did under Stephen Harper – but he’s not the person to lead us back to a majority.

The last two Conservatives to win majority governments both won power after they replaced ineffective Conservative leaders. Like Stockwell Day and Joe Clark before him, Scheer should put the party first and resign.
