I love doing this experiment with students every year for the #microorganism 's class. Good way to illustrate that they are everywhere and so beautiful! (from top, left to right: cough, phone, bathroom sit; bottom left to right: laptop keyboard, fingers, door handle)

How do mycorrhizal fungi navigate through microchips? Exciting work showing hyphal navigation strategies through 'tortuous' passages. Proud to be part of this pioneering work led by Kristin Aleklett Edith Hammer w/ Carlos Arellano Pelle Ohlsson et al. sciencedirect.com/science/articl…

My students asked me yesterday if researchers do have fun sometimes with experiments. This sounds like one of those (or it appears as fun to me, anyways) ⬇️

FUNGUS IN SPACE!!! 🍄🚀 Equal parts cosmic horror and nature being metal, let's talk about the lichen that grew on the OUTSIDE of the International Space Station! Get your tea and curl up, because I PROMISE you wanna hear about these fungal cosmonauts 🧑‍🚀 🧵

Absolutely recommend reading. Paper on #Helotiales (#Ascomycota) and their role in plant nutrition. They can form ericoid-mycorrhizae, EcM or "mycorrhizal-like" associations. Very mysterious group. sciencedirect.com/science/articl…

Do you love fungi? Or at least like them enough to spend few years studying their traits in more detail? I am offering a 2-year post-doc position in my group working on my Vidi project on fungal traits and soil functions. Apply before April 28th! universiteitleiden.nl/vacatures/2024…

There is only one occasion in life where I go from super happy, to anger, to laughing, to frustration within few minutes... And that happens when I'm grading exams.

Are you ready for this? #ICOM12 Since I'll be on maternity leave, I am recording my participation. Hope you will still enjoy my talk on spore traits!

3 days, and 3 requests to review papers. How to decide which one to review? Time is lacking, and they always request in 2 or 3 weeks. I have other priorities, and you are not paying me (rather we pay when publishing... urgh).

Has anyone heard of journal.trialanderror.org ? I was wondering where to publish a "failed" experiment with still interesting hypotheses and methods. I found this in a Nature news: nature.com/nature-index/n…
