Meeting with KNPV working group on #soil microbiomes and soil borne pathogens. Spotted some tulips in Bleiswijk with my #nsbuddies Shumaila Rasool, listened to excellent talks and got a tour of greenhouse facilities. Above all, good interactions and discussions!

Today talked in Clusius symposium in Leiden focusing on belowground life. Was a fun experience, l learned a lot and had nice interactions. And hope I convinced many to preserve soil life....

Main task today was to provide (friendly) opposition in a PhD defence. Got to be first to ask questions and we had a good chat about mycorrhizal role in global carbon cycles. #phddefence #fungi #togatime

Yesterday was surrounded by 1000 microbiologist (working mostly in the NL). Although interesting and learned a lot, was missing fungi. 🍄🍄 . The word 'microbe' seemed to be synonym for 'bacterium'. My talk was the only fungal one I saw + 1 poster. Why still such a big divide??

Was an honour to speak in a lovely session at #knvm2024 session on microbiologist in climate crises. Was a great session, including feedback loops and infectious diseases. And a lot of hope if we act soon enough!

Variable in landscape (heath, forest, grasslands and arable fields) yet overall hilly way to a microbiology conference to talk about microbiologist view on climate change - fittingly travelled by bike of course (16km)! #biketoconference #climateneutraltransport

Yesterday was the farewell symposium of Wietse de Boer, my PhD supervisor and mentor. It was an honour to give a speech about our work and share some memories. Wietse has created a strong legacy in fungal (and 🍄-🦠interactions) in the NL and happy to continue in his footsteps.
