I had the privilege to participate in National Geographic pilot program in certifying teacher candidates of Phase 1 in their NatGeo Educator program. @_Sara_Black introduced us to exceptional educators such as Paul Salopek Dr. Asha de Vos Ray Zahab @penguinlearners @iTeach2ReachDC #Curr325

In this workshop, the last activity was to choose one of the attitudes and skills that National Geographic uses for their Learning Framework and how we can create an activity for students to work towards it. I chose Empowerment because I see how it can bridge awareness into action.. #Curr325

I learn about these incredible educators and often times doubt that I can be like one of them. Fortunately I have incredible educators in my life who empower me to believe that I too can be an explorer and pass that attitude forward. #Curr325

Today in my ATEP class Dr. Lindsay Morcom used basket weaving and bead looming as an example for us to see that indigenous teachings is a holistic way to teach many subjects in one lesson. From patterning, to trade routes, to graphing! A hands on lesson. #Foci201

Happy Hanukkah! Over these eight nights, we draw inspiration from light that can overpower any darkness, and recommit ourselves to building a brighter future for our families, our communities, and our world. Chag Sameach from the Obama family to yours.

This paper offers insights into the knowledge/beliefs/practices of early math educators + identifies the supports required to improve students' mathematical understandings. Sandy Youmans, PhD & @LyndaColgan are amazing research/writing partners. Thanks to CJE / RCÉ editors/reviewers.

From coast to coast to coast, Canadians are coming together and fighting climate change. I'm going to do everything I can to work with Canadians. Does that mean we'll always agree? No, but we're all in this together. We need to do this, we can do this, and we will do this.

This year I decided to wrap my gifts in blank newspaper sheets and made homemade cards with recycled materials around the house... and they still look pretty! #reuse #recycle

Inuit Knowledge: We have for thousands of years been using the stars for our navigation, winter, spring, summer or fall. 2 stars in the big dipper always points to the north star no matter what season it is. Once you see this, maybe it can help you use to get around.

Today in my Aboriginal Teacher Education #FOCI201 class, we made hand drums & learned the traditional Anishanaabe teachings along with it. The hand drum represents our hearts & should be treated as such and with respect. Because it is made from deer hide, it is a living thing.

The #ClimateStrike now spreading around the world is the most hopeful thing I've seen in 30 years of campaigning. #YouthForClimate #FridaysForFuture #schoolstrike4climate

Spent my PD day at Toronto District School Board Enhanced Pathways workshop for History/Geography teachers. Lively discussions of concerns that staff has on destreaming, and some strategies to adapt in our classrooms to support students of different skill levels.

Had an amazing first day teaching #CHW3M (Ancient Civ) & #CGD3M (Geo of Food) classes today. I focussed working on the foundations (i.e. Concepts of thinking) to help scaffold/develop their critical thinking skills. Need to remind myself of days like these when things get hard!

While I love using Esri GIS Education Survey123 when emphasizing the geographic aspects of my questions, it’s helpful to also have Google for Education Forms to make quick surveys! I discovered #GoogleForms just today and used it as an anonymous exit slip that students can also complete at home!

Currently at a Toronto District School Board Global Competence Module & the foundation for this is pretty much the Geography discipline. I may be a little biased, but interrelationships? Geo Perspectives: SEEP? What is where? Why there? Why care?
