I live in the Costco Wholesale Ward. You can get cheap hotdogs and pizza here. Actually this joke fails, it’s Chicago, that’s actually true here.

I agree the Chicago 36th ward districting is terrible and undemocratic, but my first thought isn’t pool noodle. District shape comparisons have only gone down hill since the salamander.

The Chicago Tribune agrees with us — machine gerrymandering MUST end. We are calling on alders to work with Springfield on legislation that would put ward maps in the hands of residents through an independent commission, modeled by Chicago Advisory Redistricting Commission. chicagotribune.com/opinion/editor…

Greg Hinz Chicago, is basically, a grid city. A supermajority of the wards, should be squares or rectangles. No weird shapes. Start on the far southeast side, and go north from there.

.@ward40's thorough statement on his "no" vote yesterday on the Chicago ward map. "Having gone through this process, I think the need for change is evident more than ever, and hope that we do move our city to an independent commission before we have to do it again in 2032"

We’re seeing a distinct pattern in which people in communities that speak up against the elected officials that are carving them up are being punished in these #BackroomDeals. Wards 6, 15, 16, 17, and 20 are still split up and included in the Englewood neighborhood.

Why did Chicago City Council just redraw its ward boundaries, & why did it take so long? At 6 p.m. Wednesday, Chicago Project Manager C.J Van Dyk-McGee, M.A. will be at the Hideout Chicago to help answer these and other questions about the new ward map. Alders like Michelle Harris are trying to reduce the number of alders it will take to approve future ward maps from being passed to 26. If successful, residents will not be able to vote on how their wards are shaped & it will be easier for politicians to carve up our communities.
