This Friday (July 14th) is #SharkAwarenessDay , and this year we're focusing on the #RhinoRay (Sawfish, Guitarfish, Wedgefish, and Banjo Rays). They're some of the most threatened fish that many have never heard of, so join us for a day of celebration and awareness-raising!

The NOAA endangered shark killing scandal is now international news. Thank you to the UK The Independent for covering this critical story. independent.co.uk/climate-change…

Most people don't know about the secretive federal agency that kills wild animals by the tens of millions, or its use of cyanide bombs that poison endangered species, pets and humans alike — including on public land. That practice may soon come to an end. theintercept.com/2023/07/27/cya…

Truly shameful. A sitting member of Congress, Rep. Ralph Norman, stating that he hopes white-nose syndrome, which affects long-eared bats, “wipes out all of them.” We need our representatives to fight extinction, not be its cheerleader.

These sharks have been the focus of my research since arrivving in Malta; the scale at which they come into the market compared to all other elasmobranch's is insane! If anyone knows of researchers working with this species currently, let me know! #spurdog

Meet our intern Charlotte! Having completed her Masters in Marine Ecology, she joined the team in March to study the sharks of the Mediterranean. She is focused on raising awareness and collecting and analysing fisheries data. Her current favourite shark is the Longnose Spurdog!

Could only happen to a fish. Imagine hunting a rare apex land predator as soon as it returned, without even knowing for sure why it's back. inews.co.uk/news/environme…

This was such a phenomenal week, such a wonderful chance to learn from some of the most interesting and innovative researchers in the field! Massive thanks to The Shark Trust for making this happen 😊

An interesting find on a beach walk today in Kalymnos, Greece and from some googling I believe this is a pyrosome? I could only find one species known in the region which to me looked different to this but I'd love to get some insight if anyone knows more about this species!
