While boys with ADHD tend to exhibit disruptive behaviors, girls show more internalized symptoms like daydreaming and social withdrawal, which can fly under the radar. Stephen P. Hinshaw, PhD Nimah Gobir kqed.org/mindshift/6161…

Here's why labeling students never really works. Because this whole education thing isn't about what students CAN'T do, it's about what they CAN do with the tools we give them. We teach learners, not labels.

“Why can’t school be more like Disney World?” It costs absolutely nothing to smile, laugh, and make kids feel loved and appreciated.

They're okay with a C. Their parents are okay with a C. I'm okay with a C. As long as they are okay. Low expectations? Not at all. Their well-being is among the highest of my expectations. But? But, what? I should care more about grades? I'd rather care more about kids.

Got that "one kid" that makes you mad? Make that kid matter. Find ways every single day in your words & actions that show that one kid they matter to you instead of making you madder. Watch what happens. Mattering > Maddening

Adults in schools, When we call a kid: Slow Low That kid SPED kid 504 kid or _____ kid, it changes how we, & others, treat them. When you label, you define your expectations, not their potential. If you must label, label every kid a learner. The one thing they all really are.

Sometimes kids act out instead of telling you they're: Hungry with little food Tired from no sleep Cold with no jacket Having to take care of my siblings at home Lonely Sore with bruises you can't see Listen to what they aren't saying. Show up for them when they show out.

It'd be nice to have x-ray glasses. Then we could see why a kid (or adult) was acting why they do. Unfortunately, those don't exist, so we put on another accessory: Grace. Grace & Accountability can coexist. You're not letting anyone off, by putting grace on.

Susan Carriker Agreed! Math Learning is that 3 legged stool... Procedural knowledge- Processes & shortcuts Conceptual knowledge-the WHY behind them Application knowledge- HOW they are used We've focused on the first one for too long.

Every kid coming to school has a story. Every adult does, too. Want to make your school a place where all feel like they belong? Make sharing stories with each other the norm. That's how we change lives. By learning we all share similar stories.
