On this day in 1972, Apollo 16 lunar module "Orion" landed on the Moon in the Descartes Highlands. John Young (seen here) and Charles Duke were on the lunar surface for 71 hours and two minutes, while TK Mattingly circled the Moon in the command module "Casper."

With Artemis II safely back on Earth, NASA has begun shipping the core stage for the Artemis III rocket to NASA's Kennedy Space Center. Artemis III will test rendezvous and docking capabilities needed to land Artemis IV astronauts on the Moon in 2028. go.nasa.gov/4e0uXkj
