FDK students have been working so hard learning to map out CVC words @st_nicholas15. Segmenting words into phonemes first, then making the phoneme to grapheme connection using elkonin boxes. Learning to write words can be so much fun!

Guessing is not reading. Those of us that struggle with reading are never going to learn to read whilst we are ‘guessing’ what the word might be. We need programs based on the science of reading so that EVERY child can learn to read. #guessingisnotreading #untileveryonecanread

Learning about syllables is a great way for Ss to identify reliable and predictable patterns to help them decode unfamiliar words. Ss St. John the Baptist practice syllable division with magnetic letters from phonics kits distributed to primary classrooms this year. 👍

Reviewing closed and VCe syllables St. John the Baptist today. Comparing similar words side-by-side helped Ss realize how important that silent <e> is on the end of words. Some Ss said the <e> was magic…others said it was bossy. What do you think? 😉☺️
