Melanie Brethour WE were teaching spelling rules before the 1st WW. Then came along all the nonsense from the US = look-say, multi-cueing, whole language etc. All based on a misunderstanding of orthography & touchy - feely emotional claptrap. Eng ortho is complex discovery methods will not work.
