As irritating as this is for anyone who understands elections or maths, it's a bizarre line for No 10 to pursue given Labour are desperate to avoid complacency about a big win.

Clear from Rwanda Govt interview today that more people have arrived in UK in a week than will be sent there in years

Only 200 places ready. Yet 255 people arrived on small boats yesterday

Tory MPs say plan is just “symbolic flights before election.” Tory policy is a costly con

Switching to FPTP for PCC elections was a very effective and unscrupulous manipulation of the electoral system by the Conservatives.

My 🔒 account friend points out that the LibDems coming second on seats even though they were third on votes should have the Tories absolutely hitting themselves about the possibility of a tactical voting wipe out.

When the courts enforce a law passed by Parliament, this is not an abandonment of judicial restraint. Rather, it is the judiciary ensuring that the executive honours the will of Parliament as expressed in law.

Parliament passed the Climate Change Act 2008.

Drowned (understandably) by election coverage but anyone interested in law should catch up with the last couple of days in the PO inquiry. Recommend Edward Levey and John Hyde as starting points.

Agree. It's IMO a huge problem for the UK, trust in politics, etc. that Keir Starmer is a) the most popular party leader while b) being about as unpopular as John Major in 1997. But in terms of Labour's electoral chances in 2024, it does not matter at all.

Tom Hunt is right: people shouldn't mock him for issues caused by dyspraxia, which affects c.6% of adults.

But by his own account, Voter ID has made it harder for those people to vote. If we want neurodiverse voices to be heard in politics, that's the issue that needs addressing

Vg by Peter Foster: 'The week has rather summed up the administration of Brexit over the past eight years: a mixture of performative political posturing and inept Whitehall administration masked by deliberate obfuscation to minimise public awareness of what is actually happening.'

When the last election was held, 2 May 2024 marked the latest possible date for the next general election – until this government extended its own term.

Rishi Sunak is now governing on ‘borrowed’ time.
