Today's survey at Wilts Wildlife Trust Blakehill produced encouraging results. Lots of slow worms, many in their 1st year, the biggest grass snake I have ever seen and adders ranging from 1st year to well grown adults!
The May reptile survey at the Wilts Wildlife Trust Sandpool reserve was completed Tuesday. The place was alive with dragonflies and birdsong - even heard a cuckoo! Common lizards were out in force, and interestingly, the mats revealed lots of juvenile Slow worms!
#ChooseToRemoveDisposableBBQs It is illegal to barbecue on heathland - Dorset Heaths Partnership & Litter Free Dorset - Land, Coast & Sea's campaign provides alternative, designated barbecuing destinations. Weekend survey at Wilts Wildlife Trust Blakehill turned up some stunners. All 4 regular reptiles showed, although the grass snakes were too lively to photo well! Also spotted a Marsh Harrier at distance quartering the Plain!!
Completed the July survey today at Wilts Wildlife Trust Blakehill Farm reserve. Great to see lots of gravid slow worms. But also found this freshly dead Adder, under a tin, with it's head missing!! Not seen this before, wondering if anybody else has or can offer a explanation?
